Huda Basaleem, MBChB, MPH, PhD wins The Elsevier Foundation Awards for Early Career Women Scientists in the Developing World 2013 for the Arab Region

In January, the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) and The Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) jointly conferred the Arab Region Life Sciences award for Early Career Women Scientists to Dr. Huda Omer Basaleem.  Dr. Basaleem is the Head of the Department of Community Medicine and Public Health and the Director of the Aden Cancer Registry and Research Center at the faculty of Medicine, Aden University, Yemen.  Dr. Basaleem was a participant in the TEPHINET Scientific Writing Workshops sponsored by EMPHNET and taught by Elliott Churchill and Sarah Patrick in Amman, Jordan in May 2011 and has served on journal editorial boards. Dr. Basaleem has many published articles, the latest was in 2012  with Dr. Harhra entitled ‘Trends of breast cancer and its management in the last twenty years in Aden and adjacent governates, Yemen’ which was published in the Asia Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention.  Dr. Basaleem will be honored at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) annual meeting in Boston, MA, USA on February 16, 2013.
