Indonesia will host the 6th TEPHINET Southeast Asia and Western Pacific Bi-regional Scientific Conference from Nov. 8 to 11, 2011, at the Nusa Dua Convention Center in Bali.

The conference has the theme “Global Surveillance Networking for Global Health” and is organized by the Training Programs in Field Epidemiology and Public Health Intervention Network (TEPHINET).

The conference is the first TEPHINET conference ever to be held here in Indonesia and the conference is crucial given the transnational population mobility thanks to modern means of transportation and speedy transnational transmission of communicable diseases,” director general for disease control and environmental health Tjandra Yoga Aditama said in a statement sent to The Jakarta Post on Friday.

Tjandra said that ensuring global health was not an issue for only one country but a cause requiring surveillance involving extensive networks to tackle global health woes like communicable diseases and health problems driven by the nuclear crisis in Japan.

At least 700 participants from more than 40 countries are expected to attend the conference.

Registration is now open

More details on the conference can be found at http://tephinet.fetpindonesia.org
