Announcing the Recipients of the 2019-2020 Cardiovascular Disease Small Grants

TEPHINET is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2019-2020 Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Small Grants. This year’s group of eight awardees represent six Field Epidemiology Training

Programs (FETPs) across Africa and Asia, with project topics ranging from maternal and perinatal hypertensive care to hypertension and diabetes and the availability of essential medicines to treat hypertension. 

Through TEPHINET’s small grants program, trainees and graduates of FETPs have the opportunity to apply for awards, generally ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 (USD), to provide funding to support non-research projects aimed at strengthening local health surveillance activities.

This year’s cardiovascular disease projects have been made possible by the generous support of the CDC Foundation and the Global Non-communicable Diseases branch of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

2019-2020 Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Small Grant Recipients:

  • Fisseha Hailemariam Syoum (Ethiopia): “Maternal and perinatal adverse outcomes and associated factors among mothers with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy from July 1, 2013 to June 31, 2019 at Suhul Hospital, Northern Ethiopia”
  • Tedi Tilahun Angasa (Ethiopia): “Availability and affordability of essential antihypertensive drugs in primary health care units in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2020”
  • Zelalem Yirga Adamu (Ethiopia): “Accessibility, availability and affordability of essential medicines and diagnostic technologies for the clinical measure and treatment of hypertension in a primary health care unit of West Gojjam Zone, northwest Ethiopia, 2020”
  • Raymond Razak Mahama (Ghana): “Implementation of Team-based care for Management of Hypertension in a primary health facility—Walewale”
  • Ravivarman Lakshmanasamy (India): “Establishing community-based surveillance for hypertension in Puducherry district, Puducherry U.T., India, 2019-2020”
  • Azuka Stephen Adeke (Nigeria): “Evaluation of essential medicines and technology for hypertension in primary healthcare facilities in selected Local Government Areas of Ebonyi State, Nigeria”
  • Atuganile Benedict Musyani (Tanzania): “Integrated Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus Treatment and Care among People Living with HIV/AIDS Attending Care and Treatment Center in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania”
  • Thang Nghia Hoang (Vietnam): “Availability and readiness of hypertension management services at primary health care facilities in Central Highland, Vietnam in 2020”
