Developing an FETP Alumni Network to Facilitate Workforce Mobilization (TEPHIConnect)

Project Objective

Maintaining permanent communication with FETP graduates strengthens global health security as this category of skilled public health workers can be called upon to provide technical expertise in the event of an outbreak. With funding from the CDC, TEPHINET aims to establish a cohesive network of FETP graduates worldwide in order to facilitate the mobilization of experienced and qualified epidemiologists to support emergency response. This goal will be achieved by creating and maintaining a fully functioning FETP alumni database in addition to providing an organized platform and alumni program for post-graduate training, certification, employment opportunities, and other professional communications.

TEPHIConnect is Born

In August 2017, TEPHINET launched TEPHIConnect (, an online and mobile networking platform built exclusively for FETP graduates. Since its launch, TEPHIConnect has attracted more than 1,500 users. TEPHIConnect is an online resource for the FETP alumni community created to build and strengthen global health capacity by:

  • Providing an organized platform and program for networking, continuing education and mentoring, and accessing other professional opportunities
  • Maintaining a global field epidemiology network that will provide health systems and organizations with rapid access to competent public health professionals
Future Directions

TEPHINET is now building a work plan to include 1) expanded opportunities to engage with alumni outside of the platform and 2) collaboration with partners to create processes for identifying alumni for outbreak responses.
