In 2013, together with funding from the Skoll Global Threats Fund (now Ending Pandemics), TEPHINET, the International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID), ProMED-Mail, and HealthMap launched EpiCore (epicore.org), a virtual community of health professionals using innovative surveillance methods to verify outbreaks of infectious diseases.
Representatives from these founding organizations, including TEPHINET Director Dr. Dionisio Herrera, co-authored an evaluation of the EpiCore project, analyzing data from the first 18 months of its implementation to evaluate its usefulness in obtaining information about potential outbreaks.
