About World Field Epidemiology Day
Coordinated by TEPHINET, World Field Epidemiology Day is a global movement to recognize and raise awareness of the vital role of field epidemiologists in protecting the health of populations and advancing global health security, and to advocate for increased investment in field epidemiology training, research, and professionals. The second World Field Epidemiology Day will be celebrated on September 7, 2022.

About the CDC Office of Global Noncommunicable Diseases
The Office of Global Noncommunicable Diseases (OGNCD) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) supports FETPs in China, Ethiopia, India, and Thailand to enhance workforce capacity in noncommunicable disease epidemiology, surveillance, evaluation, scientific communications, and related public health activities. The OGNCD leads and facilitates the development, adaptation, and delivery of NCD-focused trainings, coordinates professional development opportunities, and supports dissemination at scientific meetings.
About the Supplement
The purpose of this supplement is to:
- Acknowledge the global burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in commemoration of the second World Field Epidemiology Day;
- Provide FETP fellows and graduates an opportunity to publish their work on cardiovascular disease prevention, surveillance, management, and evaluation; and
- Raise awareness of field epidemiology’s unique methodologies.
Article Characteristics
The following types of articles will be considered:
- Original research articles;
- Research briefs;
- Evaluation of a surveillance system, an intervention, or a program;
- Program evaluation briefs;
- Program implementation evaluation articles;
- GIS snapshots (may include one or more maps that address CVD outcomes, risk factors, and/or relevant community characteristics, policies, and programs);
- Tools for public health practice (new methodologies in cardiovascular field epidemiology showing readers how to apply these methodologies).
The following topic areas will be considered:
- Cardiovascular disease prevention and control (includes associated risk factors such as high blood pressure, medication adherence, team-based care, examining comorbidities among patients diagnosed with COVID-19; disruption of preventive care services for patients with NCDs during the pandemic);
- Interventions to improve high blood pressure control among people with diabetes or among people living with HIV;
- Risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease;
- Technological innovations for cardiovascular health;
- New methodologies in cardiovascular field epidemiology;
- Cardiovascular health information systems (including surveillance);
- Cardiovascular program monitoring and evaluation; and
- Cardiovascular health promotion.
Author Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must:
- Be a currently enrolled, second-year FETP resident/trainee or have graduated from a two-year Advanced FETP on or after January 2020;
- Have already completed all aspects of an epidemiology research or program evaluation project with the exception of manuscript writing;
- Be the lead and corresponding author; and
- Be able to commit a substantial amount of time to manuscript writing and respond timely to feedback from the writing support team.

Submission deadline: If you are interested in submitting a manuscript for this supplement, please submit a pre-submission enquiry at this link by January 7, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. (23:59) Eastern Time (GMT/UTC-5). This information will allow us to verify the suitability of your work.
Approval notifications will be sent by January 31, 2022. Selected authors will be asked to write and submit the first draft by March and their final article by May 31, 2022.
Journal Information
The supplement will be published in an internationally recognized, peer-reviewed journal specializing in noncommunicable diseases. There will be no publishing fees associated with this journal. Further information on the partner journal will be announced at a later date.
Target Audience
Interested readers will include the FETP community and the general public interested in cardiovascular field epidemiology work. FETP readers will include trainees/fellows and alumni, program officials, affiliates; and in-country decision-makers interested in key findings from the evaluation of surveillance systems, original research articles, and reports on innovations and new methodologies in CVD field epidemiology.
