On Tuesday, October 30, in a ceremony at its Decatur, Georgia, US-based headquarters, The Task Force for Global Health bestowed its Consequential Compassion Award for Extraordinary Achievement in Global Health upon its first-ever recipient--Dr. Dionisio Herrera, the director of TEPHINET.

Guided by Dr. Herrera's extraordinary compassion for others and his ability to build strong relationships throughout the world, TEPHINET has grown under Dr. Herrera's leadership to encompass 71 member programs working across more than 100 countries to strengthen public health systems' capacity for disease outbreak detection and response.

Dr. Herrera, who has been the director of TEPHINET since 2009, previously served as a member and chairman of the TEPHINET Advisory Board and the director of the field epidemiology training program of Spain.

TEPHINET was founded in 1997 as a global network of field epidemiology training programs. In 2008, TEPHINET merged with The Task Force for Global Health and, since then, has operated as one of its programs.

As one of its core organizational values, The Task Force links compassion to effective actions by being aware of the suffering of others, understanding the causes of that suffering, and engaging in informed actions to alleviate it.

The TEPHINET staff and member programs congratulate Dr. Herrera on this well-deserved honor.
