Surveillance of Zika-related Adverse Outcomes
Project objectives: To enhance surveillance for adverse outcomes, such as birth defects and neurologic syndromes, related to acute Zika infection in pregnant women and in the general population. The expected outcomes are a better understanding of 1) the most likely modes of transmission by examining viral load and shedding over time in bodily fluids, 2) the clinical features, incidence/risk, and outcomes of Zika-associated Guillain-Barre Syndrome and other neurologic manifestations, and 3) the magnitude of the risk of adverse fetal and infant outcomes caused by Zika virus infection during pregnancy.
