Unit 1: Introduction to Public Health Entomology

This course will give you an overview on entomology basic concepts and will introduce you to groups of medical importance. Information about vector bionomics and mosquito behavior are included. It should take approximately 20 minutes to complete this lesson.

After this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Summarize the mosquito life cycle and behavior
  • Identify major vectors and their pathogens

Unit 2: Viral Vector-borne Diseases

Unit 3: Parasitic Vector-borne Diseases

This course will present the basics of integrated vector management along with recent tools used to control mosquitoes, as well as new tools under evaluation against vectors of diseases. It should take approximately 20 minutes to complete this lesson.

After this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Review the vector control interventions used in Public Health
  • Identify new tools for vector control under evaluation
  • Summarize the basic concepts of Integrated Vector Management

Unit 6: Insecticide Resistance

This course will discuss how vector control interventions can contribute to reducing the transmission of vector-borne diseases worldwide as well as techniques to evaluate insecticide resistance adult mosquitoes.

After this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Identify the definitions and mechanisms of insecticide resistance
  • Review the methods used to detect changes in susceptibility of mosquitoes to insecticides
  • Identify tools currently used to monitor the global distribution of insecticide resistance
