Summary

This module is instructor-led. It teaches participants the importance of studying burden of disease, the effects of demographic and epidemiologic transition on NCDs, global and national trends in NCDs,  and how to measure burden of disease.  During the hour and a half of interactive presentation, participants practice calculating prevalence, incidence, and mortality.  At the end of the module, participants use either sample data or country specific data (provided by the facilitator) to calculate prevalence, incidence, and mortality.  They will also review a table and a graph and apply definitions of DALYs and QALYs. The facilitator guide contains copies of all slides and guidelines on what to say and do for each slide.  It also contains the skill assessment (i.e., exercise) and potential answers. The participant guide contains copies of all slides, some key points, a place to take notes, and all exercises.
