TEPHINET is honored to have been a collaborating organizer of the seventh International Meeting on Emerging Diseases and Surveillance (IMED) 2018 organized by the International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID). The meeting took place in Vienna, Austria, from November 9-12.

Dr. Angela Hilmers, Senior Associate Director for Science at TEPHINET, participated in the Scientific Program Committee and co-chaired a parallel session of oral abstract presentations titled, “Outbreak Preparedness: Surveillance, Policy and Communication.” Dr. Marjorie Pollack of ProMED-mail (an official program of ISID) served as the other co-chair.

IMED brings together leading scientists, clinicians, and policymakers to present new knowledge and breakthroughs and discuss how to discover, detect, monitor, understand, prevent, and respond to outbreaks of emerging pathogens.

TEPHINET, ISID and ProMED-mail are longtime partners, having worked together on projects including the launch of EpiCore, a virtual community of health professionals using innovative surveillance methods to verify infectious disease outbreaks.
